Buses are already more equal than cars, as they have special privileges. Since they are likely to stop at every block anyway, a dedicated bus lane won't make much difference in their travel time. If Hennepin Avenue is too busy for you, you can choose another street. That's why there are stores on more than one street. But thank you for remembering to add on seniors and children, who are possibly the real victims here. Hennepin Avenue is a major thoroughfare, hence it is busy, which is also why the stores are there, because of the traffic flow. That's how cities work. Try learning about zoning. It's interesting.
