Former Ward 7 Council Member and school board member Pat Scott died April 29, 2023 at age 86. “I wanted to start off this newsletter to offer a few thoughts on the passing of a devoted public servant, former Ward 7 Council Member, and friend, Pat Scott,” wrote current Council Member Lisa Goodman. “Pat, a 58-year resident from her house in Kenwood, was a fierce advocate for our community serving on the Minneapolis Board of Education from 1985-1989 and then serving two terms on the City Council from 1989-1997. She was a leader in transportation and development serving on the Transportation and Public Works Committee, Zoning and Planning Committee, and the Community Development Committee, Pat helped to set downtown Minneapolis up for several decades of success by developing the City’s 2010 Plan for downtown. After her time as an elected official, Pat spent her time and energies on her grandchildren, including their sports and music, and on small and large things in the community needing attention including: the neighborhood involvement program (NIP); the neighborhood/community groups; the major restoration of Lake of the Isles park; Meals on Wheels; starting and organizing the annual 4th of July neighborhood block party; summertime watering of all the outdoor plants around Hennepin Methodist Church; working on the Uptown library re-development.

“Pat is survived by her husband of 62 years, Tom Scott, her three children, Catherine, Robert, and James (Kate), five grandchildren Ian, Hannah, Julia, Ella, and Graeme and a sister, Barbra Eaton (Ed Salners). For Pat, the meaning in her life came from her family and from seeing things in her communities that needed attention and setting about fixing them.”
