Minneapolis tax vote ended in a deadlock

Board of Estimate and Taxation will meet again on Sept. 29

Posted

The Board of Estimate and Taxation took votes on a series of amendments to Mayor Jacob Frey's proposed 2027-28 budget on Sept. 23 to determine how much the City’s levy can increase/decrease next year.

A maximum tax levy was not decided at that meeting, as expected.

The votes went back and forth on austerity (the majority of the BET did not want to lower the entire levy to below 10% for example). The board could not agree on whether to fully fund the Park and Recreation Board's levy request.

So the BET will return on Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. to continue its discussion and, ideally, come to a consensus before its Sept. 30 deadline.
