Kenilworth Corridor construction updates

Freight trains won't operate May 23-June 1

Posted

Weekend freight rail and utility work has been scheduled for the Kenilworth Corridor. During freight track construction activities, freight trains will not operate in the Kenilworth Corridor. The purpose of this work is to reconstruct a segment of freight track from West Lake Street to just south of Cedar Lake Parkway and place it in its final location. Additionally, utilities that cross the rail corridor will be reconstructed now that tunnel construction is complete.

Note that Cedar Lake Parkway WILL remain open during this phase.

Work is expected to take place outside of regular work hours during the following times:

  • Friday, May 23: extended evening hours 6 PM-10 PM (as freight train schedules permit)
  • Saturday, May 24: 7 AM-10 PM
  • Sunday, May 25: 7 AM-10 PM
  • Monday, May 26: 7 AM-10 PM
  • Saturday, May 31: 7 AM-10 PM
  • Sunday, June 1: 7 AM-10 PM

Construction activities will produce noticeable noise. Activities will include track removal and construction, excavation, grading, compaction, tamping, and hauling of materials and equipment. Some of these activities may produce noticeable vibration for nearby residents. Lighting will be present for crews to work in the dark.

"We apologize in advance for the disruption caused by this weekend work," say workers. "If you have questions, please contact Green Line Extension community outreach coordinator Kaydee Kirk at kaydee.kirk@metrotransit.org or 612-373-3941. For urgent construction matters, call the 24-hour Green Line Extension Construction Hotline at 612-373-3933."

Later in the summer, the Cedar Lake Parkway crossing will be closed for a few months. Updates will be provided later. Tto sign up for the construction updates, follow this link.
