SEVEN POINTS GROUNDBREAKING
The groundbreaking for Doran’s new project at Seven Points, on the old Kitchen Window/CB2 site was held on June 11, 2026. When complete in fall 2027, the five-story development will bring 228 apartment homes to Hennepin Avenue, including 46 affordable units. The project is the largest new development to move forward in Uptown since before the pandemic and includes 46 affordable homes for residents earning at or below 50% of area median income. It is also the City’s first new-construction Inclusionary Zoning Tax Increment Financing project.

NEW BUSINESSES COMING TO UPTOWN
The East Bde Maka Ska Neighborhood Association announced it is excited to be welcoming three new businesses that will be opening soon: Sweet Joon (3146 Hennepin Ave. S), Tiki Tom’s Thai (1601 W Lake St.) and Arizona Taco Company (W Lake St. and Girard Ave. S).

OPPORTUNITY CROSSING
Opportunity Crossing has won the Minnesota Brownfields ReScape Award. Hennepin County’s Environmental Response Fund (ERF) helped clean up the project site near 31st Street and Nicollet Avenue in south Minneapolis.

The site’s long history includes as the former location of Wright Field, where the Minneapolis Millers played, and later a Wells Fargo bank that was damaged during the civil unrest in 2020. Today, Opportunity Crossing is a six‑story, mixed‑use building with 110 affordable family housing units above a new Wells Fargo branch and a few commercial condos for local entrepreneurs.

Along with Opportunity Crossing, two more ERF grantees were honored with ReScape nominations: Debre Selam and Kyle Garden Square.

LHENA RENT SUPPORT, FOOD DONATIONS
In recent months, LHENA has drastically increased the scope of its work in order to better meet the needs of the community. Recent milestones: $250,000+ in direct rental support to school families; and over 10,000 pounds of food distributed to neighbors in need.

DEMOCRACY DEFENSE TRAINING JUNE 23
Monarca is hosting a Democracy Defense training on Tuesday, June 23, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. for Ward 8 neighbors in the Kingfield neighborhood to ensure every citizen can cast their ballot safely.
