Senate Gun Violence Prevention Working Group announces membership

Co-chairs of the Senate Working Group on Gun Violence Prevention Senator Ron Latz (DFL-St. Louis Park) and Senator Zaynab Mohamed (DFL-Minneapolis) announced the full roster of membership for the working group Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025.
 
“We want to thank the members below for their commitment to earnest discussion on how the Senate moves forward in addressing and preventing gun violence in Minnesota," said co-chairs Sen. Latz and Sen. Mohamed. “These upcoming public meetings and the work of this group are an important step forward in our response to the tragedy that occurred at Annunciation and we look forward to this important and urgent conversation.”
 
The members of the working group will include:

• Co-Chairs Senator Ron Latz and Senator Zaynab Mohamed
• DFL Senators Liz Boldon, Mary Kunesh, Heather Gustafson, and Bonnie Westlin
• Republican Senators Jeff Howe, Eric Lucero, Kari Heintzeman, Rich Draheim, and Andrew Mathews
 
Additionally, the working group has announced preliminary details of its first two meetings.

• Sept. 15 at 9 a.m.
◦ Working Group will hear proposals from Senators and stakeholders

• Sept. 17 at 9 a.m.
◦ Working Group member discussion on proposals for a bipartisan legislative package to advance in a potential special session or the 2026 Legislative Session
 
“Minnesotans expect action that meets the moment to prevent any tragedy like this from ever happening again in any of our communities. This working group is an important part of that process, but we are fully committed to moving forward with serious proposals that will keep our children and communities safe,” added Sen. Latz and Sen. Mohamed.
