Year two of Hennepin Ave. reconstruction project begins

Hennepin closes at Douglas Ave. to southbound traffic on April 25

Posted

Minneapolis is in year two of a two-year reconstruction project along Hennepin Ave. between W. Lake St. and Douglas Ave.
Phase 1 in 2024 was from Lake St W to 26th St.
The new, multimodal design is meant to improve space for people walking, riding transit, biking and driving. The layout also provides space for enhanced stations being built for the future METRO E Line.

Latest project news
• Phase 1 Hennepin Ave from Lake to 26th St. is open to traffic. There will be misc. work on punchlist items, final landscaping, and irrigation items during the spring months.  There will be periodic short term lane closures for this work.
• Phase 2 work consists of roadway removals, lighting and signal removals, installation of temp lighting, storm sewer installation, and water service replacements.
• Hennepin will close at Douglas Ave starting Friday, April 25 to southbound traffic.

What to expect
• Roadwork and utility work involves use of heavy equipment that will increase noise, vibration, and dust in work areas.
• Traffic delays and detours
• Traffic lanes will be closed or restricted. These restrictions will vary by block depending on construction activity.
• Cross street lane restrictions will reduce travel lanes to 1-lane at times.
• Parking lanes will be closed during construction.
• Business access will remain open during the construction activities.
• Pedestrian detours around work areas will be set up as needed to enable construction. Greater impacts can be expected at intersections where work is occurring.

Weekly stakeholder meeting
• The weekly stakeholder meetings are held virtually every Friday morning at 10 a.m.
• The meeting will help us provide you with more detailed information about the work progress update and discuss any concerns or questions you have about the project.
• This is a virtual meeting using Microsoft Teams.
