CHICKADEE PARK
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) officially renamed the 28th Street Tot Lot to Chickadee Park on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025. Chickadee Park is located at 175 28th St. E, in Whittier neighborhood next to I-35W. The park was originally named for the street on which it is located and its small playground. The MPRB leased the property from the Minnesota Department of Transportation beginning in 1968. In 2024, the land was transferred to the MPRB, and it became an official Minneapolis park. A new playground and mural were completed at the park this year.

MONARCH BUTTERFLY PROJECT
In an effort to show solidarity with our immigrant and refugee neighbors, The Linden Hills Neighborhood Council (LHiNC) invites neighbors to display the symbol of the monarch butterfly visibly and proudly from their homes. Monarch butterflies make a long and difficult migration between Southern Mexico and Northern United States and Canada and represent the resilience, hope, and beauty of the journey migrants take. Purchase a yard sign and/or poster. Head to Heartfelt (4306 Upton Ave S) to make a painted Monarch butterfly craft any day between 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. while supplies last. Get crafty and print off or design your own butterfly at home.

Uptown Winter Wine Tasting FEB. 21
Warm up your winter with an evening of wine, food, music, and great company at the Uptown Winter Wine Tasting on Saturday, Feb. 21, 6-10 p.m. All proceeds benefit the East Bde Maka Ska Neighborhood Association, supporting neighborhood improvements, green initiatives, livability projects, and free events that bring Uptown together year-round.

ICE SHANTY PROJECT JAN. 17-FEB. 8
This year there will be 20 shanties and 18 performance + art actions groups on Lake Harriet/ Bdé Umán on weekends from Jan. 17-Feb. 8. The Winter Kite Festival is set for Saturday, Jan. 24. Hot food and beverage vendors are at the festival daily from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

MINNEAPOLIS JOINS LAWSUIT
Minneapolis, the state of Minnesota, and the city of Saint Paul, jointly filed a lawsuit “to stop the federal government’s unlawful, unconstitutional, and dangerous federal immigration actions in our state. We are suing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, ICE, Customs and Border Protection, and senior federal officials responsible for directing the immigration enforcement surge in the metro area.”

ABANDONED VEHICLES DUE TO ICE
Vehicles abandoned due to ICE detention will be released to their owners or a representative at no cost. Call 612-673-5777 to see if the vehicle has been impounded or search online. The City will need evidence of detention and proof of vehicle ownership.
